Central and South China (Zhongnan)

Zhongnan ( Chinese  中南 , Pinyin Zhōngnán , short for: 中南 地區  /  中南 地区 , Zhōngnán Dìqū  - " Central and South China Region ") is the Chinese name for the greater central and southern China . The term is made up of the back parts of the terms Huazhong ( 華中  /  华中 , Huázhōng  - "Central China") and Huanan ( 華南  /  华南 , Huánán  - "South China"). Here, Hua (  /  , Huá ) an acronym for China ( 中華  /  中华 , Zhōnghuá ).

The Zhongnan metropolitan area comprises the following eight provincial administrative units.

Huazhong (Central China):

  1. Henan , 河南 , Hénán
  2. Hubei , 湖北 , Húběi
  3. Hunan , 湖南 , Húnán

Huanan (South China):

  1. Guangxi , 廣西  /  广西 , Guǎngxī
  2. Guangdong , 廣東  /  广东 , Guǎngdōng
  3. Hainan , 海南 , Hǎinán
  4. Hong Kong , 香港 , Xiānggǎng
  5. Macau , 澳門  /  澳门 , Àomén
