The Central Association of German Chimney Sweeps eV - Trade Union Association (ZDS) is the only representation of German workers in the chimney sweep trade . The first chairman is the chimney sweep Daniel Fürst.

history

In 1874 a "sociable association" for journeyman chimney sweeps was founded in Hamburg and Altona for the first time . However, it was dissolved in 1876 because of reprisals by employers. At the beginning of 1907 the efforts for a new journeymen representation became more concrete again. The Berlin company wanted to establish a Germany-wide association. The purpose of the association should be to achieve adequate working and wage conditions and better working conditions and to provide social security for colleagues who have had an accident or are unemployed. On May 19 and 20, 1907, 37 delegates from all over the German Empire met in Berlin to agree on a statute and to found the “Central Association of Chimney Sweepers in Germany”. The magazine “Der Schornsteinfeger” was published as an organ of the association; Initially, the publication was financed with share certificates. When it was founded, a resolution was passed calling on the federal states to regulate the chimney sweep more strictly. For this purpose, sweeping districts of the same size should be formed; they should be redefined from time to time in order to create equal income conditions for chimney sweeps in all parts of the country. These sweeping districts should also be assigned by the government districts to the masters in the order of their age. This system was introduced in 1920 and operated in a similar manner until 2008. Over time, more and more state associations joined the Centralverband, so that its influence in the craft grew. In 1921, the journeyman's representation, which had meanwhile been renamed “Central Association”, made money available for the specialist courses of the individual local groups. This was the first time that the association was committed to the further training of its members. In 1923, the journeymen went on strike for the first time in Wroclaw for wage hearings to offset the effects of runaway inflation . In 1933 the ZDS was incorporated into the workers' association of the construction industry. The magazine "Der Schornsteinfeger" was banned.

From 1945

In 1946 the first local associations were re-established. In 1947 the first "Interzonal Conference for Chimney Sweep Workers" took place in Frankfurt am Main . There it was decided to publish a trade journal again, the first issue of which appeared on October 15, 1947 under the old title "Der Schornsteinfeger". In January 1949 a call was made to re-establish the central association. In May 1949, the ZDS was re-established in Leutesdorf am Rhein. As of April 1950, all of the regional associations that had been established in the meantime, and thus 80% of all journeyman chimney sweeps, were members of the ZDS.
In 1957, after incorporation, the federal state of Saarland joined the ZDS as the 11th regional association. A strike fund was also set up in the same year . However, there are seldom collective bargaining disputes in the chimney sweep trade. In 1979 the "Deutsche Schornsteinfeger Verlags-GmbH" (DSV) was founded, in which the specialist journal and all other publications of the ZDS are published today. In 1984 the ZDS bought a building in Troisdorf to set up a permanent office. In February 1990, the ZDS of the GDR was founded in Eilenburg . The 22nd Central Association Day decided to send the “chimney sweeps” to members of the “Eastern ZDS”. It was also suggested to set up the "Chimney Sweep Education and Research Institute" (DSBF) to train members. The foundation finally took place in September of the same year. On this extraordinary association day, the application to incorporate the ZDS of the GDR was unanimously accepted. In 2001 a new innovation center was moved into Erfurt and the building in Troisdorf was sold. A structural change was made in 2006. Since then, the ZDS is no longer divided into state associations at the middle organizational level, but into regional associations. In 2007 the ZDS celebrated its 100th anniversary and has had a new logo since then.

structure

The ZDS is organized in regional associations, state or district groups and district groups.

Regional associations

The ZDS is divided into the regional associations North, Middle, West, Southwest and Southeast. This structure was introduced in 2006. The federal executive board has been expanded to eight functionaries, five of which are regional secretaries.

State and district groups

The regional associations are also divided into regional or district groups. In federal states with high membership density there are several district groups, in countries with low density there is only one state group. Saxony forms a state group, while Bavaria is divided into seven district groups, which correspond to the administrative districts.

Circle groups

Many state and district groups are divided into district groups. These meet several times a year for round tables to exchange experiences and to keep the members up to date with the latest technology with smaller training courses.

goals and tasks

The ZDS performs various tasks. In addition to union duties, he endeavors to ensure that his members receive good training and further education. He is committed to immission and environmental protection and is the editor of the specialist journal “Der Schornsteinfeger”, which appears eleven times a year.
