The Center for Regional History (ZefüR), founded in 2013, is a historical and contemporary research facility. It is supported by the Free University of Bozen and directed by the historian Oswald Übergger . The center focuses on early modern , contemporary , gender and regional historical research. In addition to the board of directors, the research fields are worked on by three other specialist scientists and, on a case-by-case basis, by external project collaborators.

The establishment of the institute was largely supported by the interdisciplinary working group History and Region / Storia e regione in Bolzano . Cooperations exist with the South Tyrolean Provincial Archives and the University of Innsbruck .
