Hörpel is a part of the municipality of Bispingen in the Lüneburg Heath in the Heidekreis district in Lower Saxony .

geography

The place is enclosed by the L 212 (from Bispingen via Volkwardingen and Hörpel to Evendorf) and the A 7 . He is surrounded by the Hörpeler heath landscape.

history

Hörpel was first mentioned in 1193, when the village was sold to Bishop Lüder von Verden as part of the Bispingen parish.

After a dispute in 1874 over the state-ordered union of the Lutheran and Reformed Church in Prussia, the community largely belongs to the Evangelical-Lutheran Free Church ("St. Pauli").

The small railway (Luhebahn) from Winsen via Egestorf was extended in 1909 via Döhle and Hörpel (Evendorf-Hörpel station) to Hützel.

On March 1, 1974, Hörpel was incorporated into the Bispingen community.

politics

Detlef Buchheister is the mayor of Hörpel.

Culture and sights

  • The center of the village is the St. Pauli village church, built in 1909, with its 28 meter high tower. It replaced the sheepfold previously used as a church, which was demolished and rebuilt in Haverbeck .

Economy and Infrastructure

In addition to a porcelain factory and an Icelandic horse stud, only a few farms in Hörpel are farmed.

Since May 30, 1970, only a few tourist trains have been running on the Luhebahn; regular passenger traffic has been discontinued.

The L212 connects the place with Egestorf in the north and Bispingen in the south.
