The property and buildings are mainly distributed over a length of about three kilometers along the main road that connects Steinbeck to the west with Hützel and to the east with Schwindebeck . This runs parallel to the Luhe river valley at about the same height .

The highest point is the Hollhorstberg ( 106  m above sea level ) in the north.

history

First mentioned as Stenbeke in 1243 in Scharnebeck Monastery . The document was the planning of a monastery in Steinbeck, which was never built.

The Wilhelmshaven naval shipyard leased the Druhwald in 1936 to operate a camouflaged factory for the production of sea mines on an area of around 275 hectares. After the end of the war, these premises, including the inventory, were largely blown up.

On March 16, 1974, the municipality of Steinbeck (Luhe) (then the official spelling) was incorporated into the municipality of Bispingen.

politics

Kerstin Lunau has been the head of the village since November 2016.

Sports

There is a sports club, the TuS Steinbeck , as well as a game community with the neighboring towns of Bispingen and Hützel, which is called SG BHS after their initials .

Regular events

Steinbeck is famous for the annual harvest festival on the second Sunday in September . The highlight is the parade on the Sunday of the festival weekend. Agricultural equipment (tractors and trailers) is artfully decorated by the residents with the harvest from the surrounding fields, above all with dahlias . The harvest queen precedes the move with the harvest crown . It begins in the center of the village, leads out to the border to Grevenhof, where a harvest service was held in the Low German language earlier that morning , then through the entire village back to the other end of the village towards Hützel. The harvest festival attracts several thousand visitors from all over Germany every year.

Economy and Infrastructure

From the beginning, the majority of Steinbeck's inhabitants lived from agriculture. Even today there are still several companies, but these are losing importance as elsewhere. In recent years Steinbeck has developed into an attractive place to live for young families, as the proximity to Hamburg on the one hand and the high recreational value on the other ensure a high quality of life for commuters.

There is a kindergarten in Steinbeck .

The volunteer fire brigade takes over the fire protection of the place.
