Leonhard Zeugheer (born January 10, 1812 in Zurich ; † December 16, 1866 there ) was a Swiss architect of late classicism and early historicism .

Life

Born on January 10, 1812 in Zurich , Leonhard Zeugheer completed an apprenticeship as an architect in Neuchâtel from 1825 to around 1830. He then continued his studies in Paris and Liverpool with Thomas Rickman . After returning to Zurich in 1835, he worked successfully as a self-employed architect. He died on December 16, 1866 in Zurich - he did not live to see the completion of his own Villa Bellaria .

power

In terms of style and the type of construction work, Zeugheer was very diverse and flexible. He built in late classicism , neo-gothic or neo-renaissance forms - the example of the church in Neumünster (Zurich) is illustrative : Zeugheer won the competition with a neo-Gothic project, the church was finally designed in a late classicistic style.

The spectrum of construction tasks ranges from castles and villas ( Teufen Castle , villas in Zurich and Winterthur ), the first apartment buildings in Zurich (Escherhäuser), hotel buildings for the emerging tourism ( Hotel Bellevue in Zurich, Hotel Schweizerhof in Lucerne ), educational and institutional buildings ( Boys' school and industrial school in Winterthur, Pfrundhaus in Zurich, Cantonal Hospital Zurich ), administrative buildings ( official guardianship of Zurich in Zurich's Selnau) to industrial buildings ( Haldengut brewery in Winterthur).
