Zhongguo yinshi shi
The Zhongguo yinshi shi ( Chinese 中国 饮食 史 - "History of Chinese Cuisine / History of Eating and Drinking in China") is a six-volume history of Chinese eating and drinking culture, which summarizes recent scientific knowledge on this complex of topics.
On a total of 4,067 pages, the work provides the best overview currently available of the history of Chinese food and drinks. Numerous scholars specialized in the history of Chinese food and drink culture contributed to the work.
It stretches from the earliest Chinese prehistory (1,800,000 BC) - the finds of the so-called Xihoudu culture - up to 1949. The national minorities are also dealt with here.
