Zhuangology

The Zhuangologie ( " Zhuangwissenschaften " or " Zhuangkunde "; Chinese  壯學  /  壮学 , Pinyin zhuàngxué ) is a scientific discipline that deals with the study of history , language and culture of the southern Chinese people of Zhuang busy. The Chinese ethnologist , historian and educator Huang Xianfan is considered to be the founder of Zhuangology .

origin

The Zhuang are one of the oldest peoples in southern China. Zhuangology, dedicated to this people, is still a relatively new anthropological discipline in China . It wasn't until the early 1950s that people began to study the Zhuang scientifically. The Zhuangology started at that time was a first contribution to gathering and ordering knowledge of the history, culture and language of the Zhuang. The ethnological studies of Huang Xianfan since the early 1950s were pioneering in Zhuang research . From 1958 Zhou Zuoqiu (周作秋) taught the literature of the Zhuang at the Guangxi Pedagogical University . 1962 were u. a. Language teaching seminar for Zhuang established in Nanning and the first Zhuang seminars.

Current situation of zhuangology

For a few decades, zhuangology has experienced an enormous international boom, which is particularly evident in the interdisciplinary conferences of the “Guangxi Society for Zhuangology” held every five years. New areas of research for zhuangological research arise from the interest of ethnology and archeology in researching Zhuang.

Research topics

The study of Zhuangology can include philology , literature and linguistics, the history of philosophy and religion, history, the history of science and art, as well as the ethnology and sociology of the Zhuang.

education

Zhuangology is a university degree and is offered at some universities and colleges. The director of the Zhuangology Research Center at the Nationality University of Guangxi is Li Fuqiang (李富强).

Scientists of Zhuangology

One of the key figures was Huang Xianfan (1899–1982). Other main representatives were Huang Zengqing (黃增庆, 1918–1995, a disciple of Huang Xianfan, an expert in archeology and a strong critic of Buddhism and Confucianism ), Ban Xiuwen (班 秀文, 1920-, expert in medicine) and Ouyang Ruoxiu (欧阳 若 修, 1928-, a student of Huang Xianfan, literature expert). They are also known as the "Big Four" of Zhuangology.
