history
In the 17th century there were 17 houses in the village and it had about 100 inhabitants. The formerly independent municipality, consisting of the main town of Ziegenburg and the towns of Pulst , Mittel- , Ober- and Unterpöllitz and Rohrersreuth , had an area of 669 hectares and was incorporated into Marktschorgast on April 1, 1971. At the 1987 census there were 37 inhabitants in the district of Ziegenburg, at the 1970 census there were 49 inhabitants.
The village hit the headlines in 2012 with the murder of Hannelore von Luxburg (also known as Susi Cartun), who lived in Ziegenburg. Ziegenburg is characterized, among other things, with a view of the landscape and hiking trails.
