The dainty silver knapweed ( Centaurea bella ) is a species of knapweed ( Centaurea ) in the sunflower family (Asteraceae).

features

The dainty silver knapweed is a perennial plant that reaches heights of 20 to 30 (40) centimeters. It forms a rhizome . The plants form mats with their sterile shoots. The leaves are shorter than 15 centimeters, more or less rosette and pinnate with a few elliptical, blunt sections. The stems are single-headed and leafless at the top. The heads have a diameter of up to 4.5 centimeters. The shell is egg-shaped and measures 12 to 19 × 7 to 14 millimeters. The bract appendages are large, round, brown, with white margins and have very small, 0.2 to 0.3 millimeter long teeth. The florets are radiant. The crown is pink.

Flowering time is from June to July.

Occurrence

The dainty silver knapweed occurs in north-east Turkey and in Transcaucasia on stony slopes and rocks at altitudes of 400 to 2600 meters.

The dainty silver knapweed is rarely used as an ornamental plant in rock gardens. It has been in culture since 1866 at the latest.
