Origin of name

The field name "Zilin" occurs frequently in the municipality of Ainet. The Zilin is a cirque situated above the tree line and used as an alpine pasture below the Zilinkopf. This is also where the Zilin stream rises. The Zilinleite is an area in the high forest below the Zilin that serves as an alpine pasture. In the area of ​​the Zilin head there are also the Zilin notch, the Zilin shoulder and the Zilin wall. The field name Zilin is derived from the Slavic term for "green" (zelen).

The Zilinkopf is located in the south of the Hochschober-Westkamm in the extreme west of the Schobergruppe in the municipality of Ainet . It is a rounded ridge ridge, which is the extension of the southeast ridge of the western Leibnitzer Rotspitze ( 2979  m above sea level ) and is separated from it by the Zilinscharte. In addition to the Leibnitz Rotspitzen in the north, the Zutrugspitze in the west and the Lange Schöberl ( 2831  m above sea level ) and the Kleine Schöberl ( 2597  m above sea level ) in the east are in close proximity to the Zilinkopf. The Leibnitzbach runs in the south of the Zilinkopf, with the Leibnitzalm in the southwest and the Hochschoberhütte in the southeast . The closest village is Oberleibnig (municipality of St. Johann im Walde).

Promotion opportunities

The Zilinkopf, which is insignificant in terms of mountaineering, can easily be climbed from the Leibnitz Valley from the Leibnitzalm or the Hochschoberhütte on the broad south-east ridge. From the Zilinscharte the Zilingkopf can be reached by easy climbing.
