history
The Cistercian convent Sankt Katharina and Sankt Pankratius, founded north of Magdeburg an der Ohre in 1228 , founded the Medingen monastery in the same year . In 1577, in the course of the Reformation , it was converted into a noble women's monastery, which existed until 1810. The so-called New Abbey from 1732 is left of the monastery buildings . Today's Sankt-Katharinen-Kirche has stood on the site of the former monastery church since 1877.
