First ascent 1878

The Zitterklapfen ( 2403  m ) is a striking, two-kilometer-long summit ridge in the northern half of the Lechquellen Mountains . The name supposedly comes from the swaying of the arid weather trees, Klapfen means rock head.

Starting points

Ascent

According to the Alpine Club Guide, the first ascent took place in 1878.

The ascent of the Zitterklapfens is made easier from the north (1,600 meters in altitude) by a climbing system (climbing points I and II). A romantic climb at the top can sometimes be more difficult due to gaps in the edge when there is large remains of snow. There are a few exposed spots on the long summit ridge. A head for heights required. Ascent from Au in 4.5 to 6.5 hours. Similarly long from Schoppernau.

From the south (1,500 meters in altitude) rather monotonous, unusual ascent, also difficulty I to II over crags and rocks, sometimes hardly visible tracks. Ascent from Buchboden from 3.5 to 5 hours.
