Zofia Stankiewicz (born September 14, 1862 in the village of Ryschiw, Volhynia Governorate , today the Tchudniwski rajon of the Zhytomyr Oblast , Ukraine ; † October 4, 1955 in Warsaw ) was a Polish painter, graphic artist and feminist.

Life

Stankiewicz first studied chemistry in Charkow . She then attended Wojciech Gerson's drawing school in Warsaw from 1876 and the Académie Julian in Paris under Tony Robert-Fleury , Jean-Paul Laurens and William Adolphe Bouguereau from 1880 . After her return to Warsaw, she visited the studios of the painters Miłosz Kotarbiński , Konrad Krzyżanowski and Kazimierz Stabrowski . She lived mainly in Warsaw. In the first years mainly romantic landscapes (often the Ukraine) and still lifes were created . She illustrated magazines. She later made graphics. Stankiewicz used metal techniques, lithography and linocut . Her work was dominated by architectural themes, many works depict views of old Warsaw. In 1912 she founded the Society of Friends of Graphic Art (Polish: "Towarzystwo Przyjaciół Sztuk Graficznych") with Ignacy Łopieński and Franciszek Siedlecki . In 1933 she received the honorary award of the city of Warsaw (Polish: "Nagroda Miasta Stołecznego Warszawy"). Stankiewicz was buried in the Powązki Cemetery in Warsaw.
