The Zollnerseehütte (until 2006: Dr.-Steinwender-Hütte ) is an alpine club hut at 1750 meters above sea level, which is located in the part of the Carnic Alps that belongs to the Austrian state of Carinthia .

history

The Zollnerseehütte was built in 1976. Until then, there had been no AV support point on the section of the Carnic High Trail between the Plöcken and Naßfeld passes .

The hut, newly built in 1976, was initially named after Ernst Steinwender, who at that time was the incumbent chairman of the Obergailtal-Lesachtal local group of the Austria section. At the end of the 1980s, a large-scale renovation took place, which ultimately earned the hut the environmental seal of approval for AV huts . In 1993 the hut was expanded.

In 2006 there was a change of ownership when the hut was sold to the Obergailtal-Lesachtal AV section, which had been independent since 1994. Subsequently, the hut was renamed to its current name, and extensive renovation and improvement work was carried out on it.

Surroundings

The Zollner Peace Chapel is located immediately to the west of the hut . This chapel is intended to commemorate those soldiers who were killed during the First World War along the front line just south of the present-day hut location. At the same time, the chapel should appeal to peaceful coexistence.
