Zoodrake is a synth pop group from Arnsberg in the Sauerland .

history

Zoodrake was founded in 2019 by Hilton Theissen ( vocals , guitar ), who already gained fame through his parallel projects Akanoid ( electro ) and Dark Millennium ( death metal ).

Zoodrake emerged from the German-Swedish-Swiss predecessor project Seadrake. After the release of the debut album Isola and appearances at international festivals such as the Wave-Gotik-Treffen and the Subkult Festival in Sweden, there were internal difficulties and a breakup. Theissen then founded Zoodrake in order to consistently pursue the originally chosen musical path. Zoodrake works with the labels Believe Digital for digital and Echozone for physical sales.

After releasing several singles and video clips, Zoodrake released their first album under the title Purified in March 2020. The album reached number 2 in the German Alternative Charts (DAC) as well as number 2 in the German Electronic WebCharts (GEWC) and became part of the scene As an “extremely varied” synthpop album “with many rhythmic-rock passages and retro elements”, it was very well received.

In 2020, following the album release, an appearance at the Autumn Moon Festival in Hameln was planned, as well as a support tour, but both had to be canceled due to the ban on events due to the COVID-19 pandemic . In the course of the relaxation of the event restrictions, however, a joint appearance with Solitary Experiments as part of the concert series Concert Summer in the Revier was confirmed for August 29, 2020 in Gelsenkirchen.

Hilton Theissen, who appears as a singer and guitarist, is supported by a second artist under the stage name Silvveil , who is responsible for the keyboard and accompanying vocals , at live concerts and sometimes in video clips . The identity of Silvveil, wearing a hoodie and behind a metallic face mask, is not known.

style

In addition to the synthesizer, the sound of Zoodrake is also characterized by the clear presence of electric guitars, which results in a wide range of combinable synthpop and rock elements. Zoodrake's music therefore essentially follows the style of the 80s electro school, but also works with influences from wave and future pop as well as retro wave and alternative rock . In this respect, Zoodrake clearly differs from the more established parallel projects of Theissen, which clearly have their roots in electro / Goa and Death Metal . Theissen himself also mentions Trent Reznor and his band Nine Inch Nails as a musical role model.
