The Zotzensee is located in the Mecklenburg Lake District south of Mirow in the south of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania . The Zotzensee is the northernmost lake in the chain of lakes south of Mirow, made up of Zotzensee, Mössensee , Vilzsee , Zethner See and Schwarzer See .
The name is probably derived from the Slavic sosna for pine .
The lake is around 1.9 kilometers long and around 500 meters wide. It has an elongated shape and merges into the Mössensee in the south. In the north it has a tributary from the Mirower See . In the southern part it has a pronounced bay due to the Holm peninsula protruding into the lake . The lake is part of the Müritz-Havel waterway and is connected to the Black Lake via a narrow connection, the Mückenkanal .
The edges of the lake are almost entirely wooded and the banks are reed.
