Help me have a date! (Original title: The Third Wheel ) is an American comedy film from 2002 . Directed by Jordan Brady and written by Jay Lacopo .

action

Stanley works in a corporate office. He falls in love with his colleague Diana Evans, but does not dare to speak to her for over a year. It wasn't until Diana broke up with her boyfriend that Stanley made an appointment with her. He plans the evening with Diana carefully, but unfortunately everything turns out differently. There is an accident on the way to the theater in which the homeless Phil is injured. Diana and Stanley take Phil to the hospital and can't get rid of him for the whole evening from then on. Several attempts to separate from him fail because Stanley and Diana keep feeling sorry for the apparently mentally retarded man and continue to take care of him. In the end, though, it is Phil who helps Stanley land with Diana.

Michael, a work colleague and friend of Stanley, lets Stanley and Diana shadow the whole evening and bets with other colleagues how far Stanley will get on the date.

At the end of the film it becomes clear that Phil was not injured at all and is also not mentally disabled. He just fakes it and provokes the accidents so that those involved take care of him.

Reviews

David Nusair wrote in Reel Film Reviews that the film was "tremendously weak" and "completely disappointing" . The portrayals of Luke Wilson and Denise Richards are charming. Some sub-strands of the plot would lead nowhere. The film is not quite boring, but he acts like a second-rate sitcom ( "while it's never boring Exactly, The Third Wheel oft feels more like a second-rate sitcom than on actual movie" ).

The lexicon of international films wrote that the film was a "good-humored yuppie love comedy, produced by the successful Damon / Affleck duo, which also made more or less short cameo appearances" . He offers "harmless, non-binding entertainment with playful young actors" , but shows "some lengths and improbabilities" .

backgrounds

The film was shot in Los Angeles . Since May 2002 it has been shown in 48 cinemas in Italy, where it grossed around 35,000 euros . In Germany it was released directly on DVD in June 2002.
