Zoutkamperril
The Zoutkamperril is a canal west and northwest of the Dutch village of Zoutkamp . Its entire length forms the border between the provinces of Groningen and Friesland .
The water was originally the natural continuation of the Reitdiep over the Schorren into the Lauwerzee . This is indicated by the final syllable ril , which corresponds to the German Priel . After the end of the sea (comparable to the final dike of the Zuiderzee) in 1969, the Zoutkamperril formed a canal with navigable water level. It begins in Zoutkamp at the Reitdiepschleuse (Groote Provinciale sluis) and where it widens significantly, it turns into the Slenk van het Reitdiep (in German: Reitdiepgraben), or 'Slenk' for short, a five-kilometer-long fairway , which extends to the mouth of the Dokkumer Diep .
The Hunsingokanaal and Munnekezijlsterried , the last section of the Lauwers , which flows in from Friesland, flow into the Zoutkamperril (right at the beginning) . After land reclamation through polders , two main watercourses from the Frisian Zoutkamper Platte flow into the canal from the south. This was also the case on the north side, but due to a change in the drainage of the Panserpolder, the inflow is no longer available.
