Zschorlau nightingales

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Zschorlau Nightingales were a music group from the Erzgebirge Zschorlau .

First musical steps

As early as 1921, three young girls performed at a school event in Zschorlau, led by the teacher Albert Hänig. Just two years later the first public appearance took place in Zschorlau as a quartet under the name "Albert Hänig Group".

origin of the name

In 1931 a cantor from Lichtenau compared the singing of the quartet with the sound of a nightingale . The singing is as good, intimate, clean and pure as that of the songbird. The "Erzgebirgische Volksfreund" adopted the name Nachtigall in his publications and so the name became known. From 1932 on, the quartet then appeared under the name of Zschorlauer Nachtigallen .

Musical career

The group's repertoire consisted mainly of songs by the folk poet and singer of the Ore Mountains, Anton Günther . The group is particularly well-known for its four-part women's choral setting. When broadcasting the " Scheibenberg Advent Celebration", the Central German Radio used the group on December 3, 1932, and in 1934 they opened the crib show in Schwarzenberg . A record with ten tracks was recorded at the Carl Lindström AG company in Berlin in 1937 . During the Second World War , the artists appeared in hospitals and on the Western Front. Albert Hänig, who died in 1957, was in charge of the group until 1955. The group was reorganized in 1963 on the occasion of the 750th anniversary of their home parish. The accompaniment by four instrumentalists under the direction of the guitarist and Zschorlau mayor Werner Leonhardt was new. From October 1963 the group belonged to the newly founded Erzgebirgsensemble Aue , which made them even better known. Many appearances at home and abroad and numerous radio and record productions followed. In September 1993 the Zschorlau nightingales disbanded.
