Zughafen is the name of an Erfurt company organized as a GmbH , which has rented a former administration building with ancillary buildings from the Deutsche Bahn AG on the former Erfurt freight station in order to sublet the rooms to artists and companies in the creative industries .

history

The main building of the train port on the former freight yard (2017)

The airport was founded in 2002 by the Erfurt musician Clueso (Thomas Hübner), Norman Sinn and Clueso's manager Andie Welskop to initially use the rooms as music studios. The result was " a vision of an artist network, the vision of a living place that emits energy and becomes a crossroads ". Ryo Takeda , Jan Roth , Martin Kohlstedt , Sascha Stiehler , Antonio Lucaciu and the STÜBAphilharmonie were among the other artists and music groups who used the rooms there and sometimes worked together .

On December 6, 2011, Clueso's second street gig took place in Zughafen Clueso . On September 7, 2015, Clueso announced that he was going to part with his Erfurt band and left the train station. Other reasons for the move were noise emissions from rail traffic and magnetic fields in the vicinity of power lines passing by, which had a disruptive effect on the recording studios.

The airport then developed a new concept. A flea market, the “ port market ”, was held on the site for the first time in 2013 and has been held annually in spring since then. On May 23, 2016, during the refugee crisis , the Zughafen organized a “ Market of Opportunities ” on the site for the first time to give young refugees and locals the opportunity to exchange ideas. A street food festival took place for the first time in 2017 . At that time there were around 25 tenants on the site, including musicians such as Alfred Quest , Tim Jäkel and Martin Hansmann , artists such as Marc Jung and Severine Kerber-Niedling , advertising and artist agencies and other companies in the creative industry. A 900 m² former goods hall is used for concert events and can also be rented.
