Antonio Lucaciu (born July 2, 1987 in Plauen ) is a German saxophonist, composer and cultural manager of Romanian descent.

Life

Antonio Lucaciu comes from a musical family, his parents are violinists in the Plauen-Zwickau theater. During his school days he received classical piano lessons and, from the age of 13, saxophone lessons. From 2002 to 2005 he was a member of the State Youth Jazz Orchestra Saxony under the direction of Manfred Kebsch, Al Porcino , Milan Svoboda and Ansgar Striepens .

From 2004 to 2005 Lucaciu studied in the junior support class of Michael Arnold and Richie Beirach at the University of Music and Theater "Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy" Leipzig . In 2005 he began his regular studies there with Michael Arnold, Johannes Enders and Richie Beirach.

Lucaciu has been playing in a duo with Sascha Stiehler since 2005 , which also forms the core of other formations. In 2007 he founded the quartet Change Request with pianist Sascha Stiehler, drummer Jan Roth and bassist Matthias Eichhorn , with which they won the Straubing International Jazz Prize in 2008. In 2008 Lucaciu attended Dave Liebman's master class in New York.

In 2010, together with Sascha Stiehler and his brother Robert Lucaciu , he initiated the Telegraph jazz club in Leipzig and founded the Egolaut music label in the same year . For 2010 he was elected member of the board of the Jazzclub Leipzig eV and participated in the planning and implementation of the 34th Leipzig Jazz Days.

Previous concert tours have taken Lucaciu with various bands to China, the USA and the Netherlands, Italy, England, the Czech Republic, Belgium and Austria. He is also featured as a soloist on Wolfgang Schmid's album Let the Groove Begin . In 2011 he went on a concert tour as a duo partner of Clueso and made music with Udo Lindenberg, among others . and Wolfgang Niedecken and Max Herre .

Since 2011, Antonio Lucaciu, together with Sascha Stiehler, the Saxon Music Council and the State Music Academy of Saxony, has been leading the annual workshop on jazz and improvised music for young musical talents from Central Germany.

In April 2012 he released the EP Clara Park with the duo Stiehler / Lucaciu . The subsequent Duo meets Friends tour with over 30 concerts was organized exclusively by fans after a call from the band. In May of the same year Sascha Stiehler was artistic director of the 13th Greizer Jazzwerk together with Antonio Lucaciu, Robert Lucaciu and Cornelius Häschel.

Antonio Lucaciu and Sascha Stiehler initiate the Egolauthaus in the Plagwitz district of Leipzig . The Künstlerhaus serves the mutual networking and the exchange of supporters of the creative industries from the fields of music, design, photography etc.

In 2013 Antonio Lucaciu composed, together with Sascha Stiehler, on behalf of the 34th German Evangelical Church Congress, the work Soiel Sie gehtst for string ensemble, choir, percussion, piano and saxophone. The world premiere at the Inner Alster and the port basin in Hamburg on May 1, 2013 saw over 250,000 people. At the same time the work was released on CD by the Egolaut music label .

On October 1st, 2013, the duo Stiehler / Lucaciu released the album Kompott goes always and went on a two-month tour through Germany.

In 2015 Lucaciu initiated and organized the Egolaut Festival in his hometown of Plauen. Over five days, 17 events with artists such as Hundreds , Jan Blomqvist and Max Prosa took place in eight different locations .

In 2016 he founded the five-piece pop band Egolaut together with Sascha Stiehler , and together with Charley Ann Schmutzler they toured Germany with this project in May 2016.

In 2017, the internationally renowned German drummer and percussionist Günter "Baby" Sommer invited Antonio Lucaciu to a duo concert in Dresden as part of the first encounter series . From this first collaboration a duet was formed, which now gives concerts on a regular basis. Lucaciu has also been a member of the Erfurt singer Clueso since 2017 . On the New Beginning and Handbag I tours he accompanies Clueso as a saxophonist, pianist and background singer. In 2018 Lucaciu released his first solo single This coffee makes me tired and appeared for the first time as the opening act for Clueso in the Messehalle in Erfurt. On April 26, 2019 the duo Stiehler / Lucaciu released their second studio album In der Nacht .

In April 2020 he founded the comedy music project Das Goldene Sofa together with actor Benjamin Vinnen .
