Future (club)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Die  Zukunft  (also known as  Zuki or Zukki)  is a house and techno club in Zurich's Aussersihl district  , which was opened in 2005 by Alex Dallas, Kalabrese and four other partners. The club got its (futuristic) name from the artist AC Kupper. The future is the most famous club for electronic music in Switzerland.

history

The future was founded in autumn 2005 by Miguel Castro, Alex Dallas, Dominik Müller, Markus Ott, Michi Vollenweider and Sacha Winkler (Calabrese), which was a rather "daring" undertaking at the time. Two of the future comrades-in-arms (Alex Dallas and Markus Ott) had already run the Zurich Club Dachkantine , a "unique hybrid of club and culture platform", two others were the makers of the Zurich location Bogen 13 (Dominik Müller & Michi Vollenweider) while Markus Ott ( Babyshake) and Miguel Castro (Grubenstrasse 28) had made a name for themselves as party organizers. In 2005, the club moved into a cellar at Dienerstrasse 33, not far from Langstrasse  in the middle of Zurich's red light district. While other clubs were closing again, according to the online magazine Resident Advisor , the future was considered a "safe haven" in the Zurich club scene from an early stage. In 2009, the future makers also opened the Bar3000 on the ground floor, an establishment that also functions as a smoking lounge (fumoir). Artists, photographers and designers such as Pierluigi Macor, AC Kupper, Pascal Alexander and Knob shape the appearance and artwork of the club.

DJs and music

Electronic club music will be played in the future, but concerts will also take place. There are also regular cultural film screenings, discussions and readings in the club. The regular club nights mainly house, disco and techno. DJs occasionally play in the Bar 3000. The so-called  resident DJs  include Zurich DJs such as Kalabrese, Alex Dallas, Lexx , Ron Shiller, Kejeblos but also younger names such as Jimi Jules , Manuel Fischer or Les Points. International top DJs such as Dixon , Âme and Gerd Janson have been regular guests since the club was founded, as have pioneers such as Gilles Peterson and Andrew Weatherall .

Future (label)

The in-house label Zukunft Recordings has also existed since 2015. The Zurich band Legendary Lightness released a maxi, followed in 2016 by a 12-inch record by Jimi Jules as Jules et Spatz, a collaboration between Jimi Jules and Kalabrese, and Jimi Jules' debut album "Equinox". The readers of the German club magazine Groove  chose label artist Jimi Jules as one of the newcomers of 2016.
