architecture

The chapel “Zum hl. Aloysius ”is located on Rudolfstraße, west of the Mönchengladbach city center. It was inaugurated in 1896 and built in memory of the factory owner Franz Brandt's firstborn son (Rudolf) who died of tuberculosis in 1889 at the age of 21 .

The stately chapel is built of brick in neo-Gothic shapes. The facade is distinguished by a large pointed arch window with a rich tuff frame. The facade as a whole ends with a point and has an inset stepped gable , which protrudes slightly over the roof ridge, but roughly forms the verge for a simple gable roof that covers the adjoining four bays and ends in a five-eighth end, corresponding to the floor plan of the apse .

The balanced neo-Gothic chapel is indispensable for Mönchengladbach for architectural as well as urban and social-historical reasons.
