Zvi Mazel

Zvi Mazel (born March 4, 1939 ) is a retired Israeli diplomat .

He previously worked in the embassies in Antananarivo , Paris and Cairo and was Israel's ambassador to Romania and from 1996 to 2001 in Egypt . Since 2002 he has been ambassador to Sweden . Mazel is now retired and lives in Jerusalem .

He appeared on the news a few times. He once said that the Swedish Archbishop K. G. Hammar was “apparently an anti-Semite ” and he also said that the criticism of the then Foreign Minister Anna Lindh of Israel's breach of international law could not be tolerated. He also claimed that there was "media incitement to kill Jews" every day in Sweden.

He became best known internationally in January 2004 for his attack on the artwork Snow White and the Madness of Truth . The artwork was part of the Making Differences exhibition . Israel's Prime Minister Ariel Sharon later said he supported Zvi Mazel's work.

Mazel's successor as ambassador to Sweden was Eviatar Manor in 2004 .
