Two graves from the time of the Southern Han Empire

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Two Tombs of the Southern Han Empire ( Chinese  南 漢 二 陵  /  南 汉 二 陵 , Pinyin Nánhàn Èr Líng , Jyutping Naam 4 hon 3 Ji 6 Ling 4 , English Two tombs of the Southern Han ) in Guangzhou in the southern Chinese province of Guangdong are mausoleums of the brothers Liu Yin and Liu Yan (the first official ruler) of the Southern Han Empire .

The site was discovered in 2003. There are two large graves of the type having a masonry brick grave chamber "Zhuanshimu" ( 磚石墓  /  砖石墓 , zhuānshímù ) in the hills Qinggang ( 青崗  /  青岗 ) and Daxiang Shan ( 大香山 ) of the village Beiting ( 北亭村 ) the greater community Xinzao ( 新造鎮  /  新造镇 ) of the municipality Panyu ( 番禺區  /  番禺区 ) of Guangzhou in the west of Xiaoguwei island ( 小谷圍島/小谷围岛 ) on the grounds of Guangzhou Higher Education Mega Center spotted .

These are the mausoleums Deling ( 德 陵 ) and Kangling ( 康 陵 ) - that is, the graves of the rulers (and brothers) Liu Yin ( 劉 隱  /  刘 隐 ) and Liu Yan ( 劉岩  /  刘岩 ) of the Southern Han Empire . Large quantities of high quality celadon and glazed pottery of the time have been unearthed.

The sites were investigated by the Guangzhou City Cultural Objects and Archeology Institute under the direction of Feng Yongqu ( 馮永 驅  /  冯永 驱 ).

The design of the Kangling grave in a "combination of altar and grave in one" raises new questions about the sepulchral culture in southern China . It contained, among other grave goods from ceramics in the form of fruits, including sweet potatoes , pineapples , bananas , water chestnuts , arrowhead , peaches and Kakifrüchten . They are the earliest fruit and vegetable ceramics of its kind found in China.

The "Two graves from the time of the Southern Han Empire" (Nan Han er ling) have been on the list of monuments of the People's Republic of China (6-271) since 2006 .
