Tsvetan Vasilev

Tsvetan Vasilev ( Bulgarian Цветан Василев , English transcription Tzvetan Vassilev ) is a Bulgarian entrepreneur and financier, who in 2012 was considered the country's second most influential person.

Vasilev is the chairman of the supervisory board and majority shareholder of Corporate Commercial Bank AD (Bulgarian Корпоративна търговска банка АД), the fifth largest bank in Bulgaria, measured by its assets. Rumors in the electronic media led to a run of customers on savings in 2014 . According to the NZZ, the cause was suspected to be a dispute between the Bulgarian oligarchs Peewski and Wassilew.

The Corporate Commercial Bank had to flee under the rescue package of the Bulgarian central bank on June 20. He started his higher education in the field of foreign trade at the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences of the University of Łódź (Poland). In 1985 he finished his studies in the field of "International Economic Relations" at the Business School "Karl Marx" (today University of National and World Economy , short UNSS, Bulgarian УНСС). In 1992 he founded the financial brokerage companies “Bromak” and “Fina S”. From 1995 to 1999 he headed the “Currency Operations and Liquidity of Zentralna kooperatiwna banka” (Bulgarian Централна кооперативна банка; short: ЦКБ; CCB Bank). From 1997 he was a member of the board of directors of this bank. For a short time he headed the “Markets and Liquidity” department at TB Balgaria invest (today the “Allianz Bulgaria” bank).

From mid-2000 he was Chairman of the Board of Directors and Executive Director of the Corporate Commercial Bank AD ( KTB AD ). From 2003 he is the majority owner of the bank and chairman of its supervisory board.

Tsvetan Vasilev has a number of specializations in the field of management of financial institutions and banks. He is the chairman of the board of directors of the insurance company “Victoria” (joint stock company) (in Bulgarian: ЗАД “Виктория”).

In 2012, a consortium made up of the companies of Tsvetan Vasilev and VTB Capital acquired the public company Vivacom from its international creditors. Due to its complexity, experts rate the business as one of the most difficult to implement projects in Bulgaria's financial markets. The deal was approved by the European Commission and by Vivacom's international creditors.

Tsvetan Vasilev speaks English, French, Russian and Polish.

Since 2011, Vasilev has been the financial supporter and promoter of the Botev Plovdiv football club . In addition to the professional development of the football club, one of the most important goals that the banker sets himself is the promotion of the youth academy.

Awards and memberships

Tsvetan Vasilev has been awarded several prestigious prizes in the financial and economic sector at international level and in Bulgaria . In 2011 he received the “Mr. Economy ”from Ikonomika magazine for its holistic contribution to the development of the Bulgarian economy.

Tsvetan Vasilev received four “Banker of the Year” awards from the leading Bulgarian weekly financial newspaper Banker :

• 2008: Prize for Consolidation of Domestic Capital in the Bulgarian Financial System,
• 2010: Price for Market Stability and

"

Tsvetan Vasilev holds an honorary doctorate from the University of Mining and Geology in Sofia and an honorary degree from the University of National and World Economy. He is a member of the university's board of trustees .

He is a member of the International Advisory Board of the Atlantic Council of the United States of America. He also participates as a lecturer in forums of the Atlantic Council, such as the Black Sea Energy and Economic Summit or the Economic Summit.

Tsvetan Vasilev develops economic analyzes and forecasts that are highly valued by the international economic and financial world and by politics. He is a regular guest at renowned international forums, to which he is regularly invited to present his views and to discuss the current challenges of the global economy with other leaders from the financial sector .

Vasilev traditionally participates in the Wroclaw Global Forum organized by the Atlantic Council of the United States of America and the Municipality of Wroclaw, Poland.

The aim of the event, which is followed with great interest by politicians, diplomats and entrepreneurs alike, is to promote the democratization process in Eastern Europe and neighboring countries.

Private life

Tsvetan Wassilew is married to Antoaneta Wassilewa , Dean of the Faculty of International Economics and Politics at the University of National and World Economy in Sofia (UNSS). Both are supporters of the building of the Bulgarian monastery Zarnogorski Manastir (also known as the monastery of the holy miracle workers Cosmas and Damian ).
