Between heaven and ice (original title: La Glace et le ciel ) is a French documentary by Luc Jacquet about the life's work of the glaciologist Claude Lorius . After eight years of research in Antarctica, he was one of the first scientists to warn of the consequences of global warming in 1965 . The film premiered as the closing film of the 2015 Cannes Film Festival . The German theatrical release was on November 26, 2015.

The now 82-year-old Claude Lorius traveled to Antarctica as a participant in an expedition in the mid-1950s and then devoted his entire research life to ice. Already 30 years ago he proved that humans are responsible for the previously proven global warming. Evidence was provided by evaluating dozen layers of ice that have stored the climate of the earth's history over thousands of years. Lorius also came to the conclusion that the air bubbles trapped in the ice provide information about the respective composition of the atmosphere and thus provide a portrait of the earth's climate.

The Filmdienst ruled in his short criticism of visually complex film "mounted portrait, pathos and stunning landscapes to a sublime experience that move and will shake to move to rethink and act."
