The incident in Bochum

The incident was a discotheque in the Langendreer district of Bochum . It opened in 1984 and was known nationwide for its alternative music program. It was closed in 2011.

history

The discotheque incident in Langendreer was opened in 1984 in the rooms of the former rock discotheque "Appel" and turned to alternative music such as wave . The Dortmund discotheque “Memphis” and the Wuppertal “Up” served as models. The incident soon became one of the central meeting points of the black scene in all of North Rhine-Westphalia . Parts of the underground film Kinder der Nacht were shot there.

The incident was formative for the German wave and dark wave , but also for the punk scene of the 1980s. The program differed significantly from other clubs, as much emphasis was placed on a balanced selection of music, while fast-moving trends and temporary hype also had a strong (often viewed as too commercial) influence on the music program of the clubs in the development of the black scene.

International bands of various musical styles appeared regularly in the incident, including B. Agnostic Front , Mr. Review , At the Drive-In , Meteors or Goethe's heirs .

Furthermore, there were sporadic fetish parties with play opportunities, the contact between supporters of the black scene and BDSMers was positive without incident. On the ground floor rather small with a small dance floor and on the first floor a larger dance / play area, separate cubicles were set up for BDSM evenings.

On the night of August 18-19, 2011, there was a fire in the apartments above the discotheque. The building was badly damaged and there was severe water damage to the rooms of the incident. The building was considered to be in danger of collapsing and was uninhabitable. The discotheque was closed. KKM Gaststätten-Betriebs-GmbH was liquidated on December 31, 2011. The building was demolished in 2017.

Since the fire, events have been held in various other Bochum clubs, such as the Rockpalast or the trumpet , under the name Zwischenfall2 .

Compilations

Since 1994, five editions of the "Incident Sampler" have been published, which reflect the musical development of the club. The first issues have the subtitle "From The 80's To The 90's", the last with the name "Electro Bites" shows the stylistic direction of this compilation. In addition to the "incident samplers", there are other compilations that show a cross-section of the program of a particular event.
