Mr. Review (2001-2009: "Rude and Visser") was a ska band from the Netherlands founded in 1983 .

Mr. Review play fast, but also jazzy ska with a strong wind section . The lyrics are often serious and even melancholy .

Band history

Mr. Review was born in Amsterdam in 1983 , when guitarist Arne Visser and drummer Roel Ording, who already played together in a band , met with Dr. Rude meet. At first the new band experimented with reggae , but soon decided to concentrate entirely on ska .

In the mid to late 1980s, they mainly played in pubs in Amsterdam. Eventually they signed a contract with the British label Unicorn Records from London , on which they released their first album , Walkin 'Down Brentford Road , in 1989. The title refers to the "Brentford Road" in the Jamaican capital Kingston . This street is where producer Coxsone Dodd's Studio One is located , where many of the later greats of ska and reggae music made recordings in the 1950s and 1960s .

In 1994 the second studio album Lock, Stock and Barrel was released . In July 1995 the single The street where I'm living was released .

In November 1997 the band finally released the single Ships that pass in the night .

In December 1999 the band split up. Some members continue with Rude Rich and the High Notes , others devote themselves to their private lives.

From Mr. Review to Rude & Visser

Front man Dr. Rude, songwriter Arne Visser and saxophonist Remco Korporaal gathered new musicians in 2001 and founded the follow-up band "Rude & Visser", which has since given live concerts again with the addition of "aka Mr. Review". In 2002 the mini album Red Rum was released.

Back to Mr. Review

For the 25th anniversary in 2009, Rude & Visser renamed themselves again to Mr. Review and began recording the new studio album XXV , which was released on November 13, 2010.

Mr. Review are known throughout Western Europe as an excellent live band. Their way of playing Ska is unsurpassed , they manage to be danceable and melancholy at the same time and which they define as European Ska .
