description
Persistent Chamaephyte , above-ground shoots round to square, densely tufted, dark green, frosted on the underside, similar to pseudo cypress. Belly and flank leaves designed in the same way. Sporophyll stand 3 to 12 cm long. Sporophylls drawn out in long tips. Chlorophyll-free main shoot 3 to 15 cm deep, underground.
The number of chromosomes is 2n = 46.
Locations
The cypress flat bear thrives in dry, sparse coniferous forests and on heaths; it likes fresh or alternately moist, low-base, acidic, peaty-humic, sandy soils, especially over red sandstone or granite. According to Ellenberg , it is a light plant, a freshness indicator and a strong acid indicator that grows in locations with the lowest nitrogen levels. He is a federation character of the Gorse-Heidestrauch-Heiden (Genisto-Callunion).
distribution
The cypress flat bear found in Europe, Turkey and North America. But it is missing in Europe in Great Britain and on the Iberian Peninsula.
Hazard / protection
The cypress flat bear is endangered in Germany (category 2) and is under nature protection.
