Zytanien is the unofficial name of a former brick factory south of Immensen near Lehrte in the Hanover region in Lower Saxony . Since 1987 the terrain is every August scene of the now three-day open air - festivals Zytanien .

The name Zytanien was based on the name of Zytan AG , founded in 1976 , which at the time was based on the brick factory and tried to process expanded clay pellets into heat-insulating bricks . The idea, based on several patents , turned out to be too costly in practice and ultimately not feasible, so that the company ceased operations in 1981 and filed for bankruptcy. After the dismantling of the still usable systems and machines, the area was no longer used commercially, but from 1986 as an experimental field for alternative ways of life, the system was occupied. At the beginning of the nineties of the twentieth century, the building contractor Günter Papenburg acquired the site. With the mediation of Gerhard Schröder , who at that time lived in immense numbers, a rental contract was agreed between the occupiers and the new owner. In 2018, 21 people lived on the site, some of them in construction trailers in the manner of a trailer park . The residents of the site use the proceeds from the Zytanien Festival to maintain the buildings. For this purpose, a non-profit GmbH was founded in 2017. In the second half of 2018, the tenants' lease was terminated with effect from December 31, 2018. The owner Günter Papenburg intends to sell the site. The tenants endeavor to maintain the site in its current condition. There was broad support for this in the Immensen local council.

Festivals

Zytanien Open Air Festival

In 2009, Tito & Tarantula , Rainer von viel , The Black Sheep and Apparatschik performed at the Zytanien Open Air Festival . At the 27th festival in 2013, a total of 18 bands and 10 DJs performed on three stages in front of more than 2,000 spectators, including the band Raggabund . In 2014, despite rainstorms and tightened police checks for driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs, 2,500 visitors attended the festival, at which Eljot Quent and Analogue Birds performed, among others . For the 30th anniversary, almost 4,000 people visited the festival, and around 4,000 visitors came in 2019.

Burrow Festival

Since 2015, the Fuchsbau Festival has also taken place annually in August (with the exception of a creative break in 2018) . The Fuchsbau Festival sees itself as a mixture of art, music and discourse.
