The Black Sheep is a German alternative rock band from Cologne, founded in 2005 .

history

The band was founded by the sisters Charlotte Klauser and Johanna Klauser, where they initially played as a school band in a three-man line-up and was eventually dissolved. In 2005 a new foundation took place, and two members were added, Aurora Steffens and Patricia Ross. The group made regular appearances and recorded a demo . A wider audience were The Black Sheep by their participation in the Bravo-Otto-school competition in 2005 , in which the band took second place, and by performing as the opening act of the German rock band Silbermond in 2006. In 2007 she joined the national band competition Popmotor on and took 32nd place.

In 2008 the band received a recording contract with the German subsidiary of the US record label Roadrunner Records and completed a tour as the opening act for the German medieval rock band In Extremo . In the course of the joint tour, Charlotte Klauser sang the duet Aufs Leben with the in-extremo singer Das letzte Einhorn , which was also published on the concert DVD of In Extremo, Am golden Rhein . The Black Sheep's debut album, Not Part of the Deal , was released on March 27, 2009 via Roadrunner Records. Aydo Abay , the former singer of the Koblenz-based band Blackmail , is the guest singer on the album . In 2008 a performance by the Black Sheeps was broadcast in the Cologne rock club Underground as part of the WDR Rockpalast .

In June 2009 The Black Sheep appeared on a tour as the opening act for the American punk rock band Social Distortion . In August 2009 the band played several concerts, including at the Gamescom Festival 2009 in Cologne and in the opening act of the American metal band Life of Agony on their tour 20 Years Strong . During these performances, the Bonn guitarist Mario Kleine replaced the bassist Aurora Steffens, as she had to cure a hand injury. In November 2009, the formation played as the opening act for the German tour of the Finnish band Sunrise Avenue .

In October 2010 the group completed a tour in small clubs through Germany. The bassist Aurora Steffens was replaced by Lea Küpper on this tour. On January 23, 2011 the band officially announced that Steffens has left the band and the line-up change is permanent. In 2012 there was another line-up change; the bassist Küpper was replaced by Katja Stoffels. At the same time, founding member Ross left the band and Claudia Lippmann took over as drummer. The band's activity in 2011 was limited to small appearances and a tour of Poland . In February 2014, the band's second album, Politics, was released, which received numerous positive reviews: In addition to various online magazines, Peter Maffay also recommended the band's album on February 14, 2014 on his Facebook page.

The last joint live appearance took place in August 2014. Since 2015 the members have been concentrating on solo projects.

On March 27, 2019, the band announced their comeback with the original line-up.
