James McClellan Robinson
James McClellan Robinson (born May 31, 1861 near Fort Wayne , Indiana , † January 16, 1942 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American politician . Between 1897 and 1905 he represented the state of Indiana in the US House of Representatives .
Career
Born on an Allen County farm , James Robinson attended public schools in his home country. After a subsequent law degree and his admission as a lawyer in 1882, he began to work in Fort Wayne in this profession. Between 1886 and 1890 he was a prosecutor in the 38th Judicial District of Indiana.
Politically, Robinson was a member of the Democratic Party . In the congressional election of 1896 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the twelfth constituency of Indiana , where he succeeded Jacob D. Leighty on March 4, 1897 . After three re-elections, he was able to complete four legislative terms in Congress by March 3, 1905 . During this time the Spanish-American War of 1898 fell .
In 1904 Robinson was defeated by the Republican Newton Gilbert . After leaving the US House of Representatives, he practiced again as a lawyer in Fort Wayne until 1911. He then moved to Los Angeles, where he spent his old age. He died there on January 16, 1942.
