Leonidas Sexton (born May 19, 1827 in Rushville , Rush County , Indiana , † July 4, 1880 in Parsons , Kansas ) was an American politician ( Republican Party ). He represented the state of Indiana in the US House of Representatives and was its vice governor .

After attending public schools in his Heimatcounty Leonidas Sexton wrote at Jefferson College in Canonsburg ( Pennsylvania a), where he made 1847 its conclusion. He then studied in Rushville law ; between 1848 and 1849 he also attended the law school in Cincinnati . After being inducted into the Indiana Bar in 1850, he began practicing law in Indiana.

Sexton's political career began in 1856 when he became a member of the Indiana House of Representatives . From January 1873 to January 1877 he was vice governor of his state, which he acted as deputy to Governor Thomas A. Hendricks , who later became US Vice President . Finally, he was elected to Congress , where he remained from March 4, 1877 to March 3, 1879. He had to resign his mandate after unsuccessful re-election attempt to the Democrat Jeptha D. New and died the following year in Kansas.
