Thomas B. Ward

Thomas Bayless Ward (born April 27, 1835 in Marysville , Ohio , †  January 1, 1892 in Lafayette , Indiana ) was an American politician . Between 1883 and 1887 he represented the state of Indiana in the US House of Representatives .

Career

In May 1836, Thomas Ward and his parents came to Lafayette, Indiana. He later attended Wabash College in Crawfordsville . This was followed by studies at Miami University in Oxford (Ohio) until 1855 . In 1855 and 1856 Ward worked as an administrator with the Lafayette township. After studying law and being admitted to the bar in 1857, he began to work in this profession in Lafayette. In the years 1859 and 1860 he was the legal representative of this city, as its mayor he then acted between 1861 and 1865. From 1875 to 1880 Ward was a Superior Court judge in Tippecanoe County .

Politically, he was a member of the Democratic Party . In the congressional election of 1882 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the ninth constituency of Indiana , where he succeeded Charles T. Doxey on March 4, 1883 . After being re-elected, he was able to complete two terms in Congress until March 3, 1887 . In 1886 he declined to run again.

After his departure from the US House of Representatives, Thomas Ward practiced again as a lawyer in Lafayette, where he died on January 1, 1892.
