William F. McNagny

William Forgy McNagny (born April 19, 1850 in Tallmadge , Ohio , †  August 24, 1923 in Columbia City , Indiana ) was an American politician . Between 1893 and 1895 he represented the state of Indiana in the US House of Representatives .

Career

William McNagny attended public schools in Whitley County , where he had moved in his early teens. There he also went to the Springfield Academy . After that he worked as a teacher. For six years he helped his father run his farm. Between 1868 and 1875 McNagny was station master for the Pennsylvania Railroad in Larwill . After a subsequent law degree and his admission as a lawyer in 1875, he began to work in Columbia City in this profession.

Politically, McNagny was a member of the Democratic Party . In the congressional election of 1892 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the twelfth constituency of Indiana , where he succeeded Charles McClellan on March 3, 1893 . Since he was defeated by Republican Jacob D. Leighty in 1894 , he could only serve one term in Congress until March 3, 1895 .

After leaving the US House of Representatives, McNagny withdrew from politics. In the following years he practiced again as a lawyer in Columbia City, where he died on August 24, 1923.
