William D. Owen

William Dale Owen (born September 6, 1846 in Bloomington , Indiana , †  1906 ) was an American politician . Between 1885 and 1891 he represented the state of Indiana in the US House of Representatives .

Life

William Owen attended Indiana University Bloomington until 1865 . He then studied law. But he did not work as a lawyer; instead he worked as a clergyman. He practiced this profession until 1878. At the same time he began a political career as a member of the Republican Party . In the 1884 congressional election , Owen was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the tenth constituency of Indiana , where he succeeded Thomas Jefferson Wood on March 4, 1885 . After two re-elections, he was able to complete three legislative terms in Congress by March 3, 1891 .

Between 1895 and 1899, Owen served as Secretary of State, the executive officer of the Indiana state government. He also worked in the real estate industry. He was also involved in a rubber plantation in Mexico . William Owen died in 1906 while visiting Europe; neither his exact date of death nor his place of death are known.
