Lasse lives in Dalarna. Dalarna is part of Sweden, but Lasse believes Dalarna is all of Sweden. However, through his many cousins, he learns that Sweden is much bigger than he thinks. Lasse's grandmother receives a lot of mail from her grandchildren, which she reads to Lasse.

Maria and Anders live in Skåne. The two tell their grandmother about school and Maria's difficulties in sitting still. After school, the siblings ride their bikes home together. Afterwards, they ride a horse or are taken along while driving a tractor.

Sigrid lives in a fishing village on the west coast by the sea. She writes to her grandmother about her school trip to Gothenburg. On this she saw a ship that was bigger than a house. However, in their own village, the boats are small and often used for fishing and sailing. She also writes that she always takes a boat to school because it is on an island. On the way back she could do her homework in the boat.

Johan and Eva live in Sweden's capital Stockholm. Johan writes to the grandmother that the cat Pio, who gave her grandmother Eva, is fine. He also tells how his sister Eva shows the city to the cat Pio. However, Johan believes that as a country cat, Pio is not interested in city life and would rather go back to the country. Gunnar lives in a mountain village in Norrland. There are mountains, forests, lakes and a lot of snow in winter. He reports how he goes skiing in winter.

Lasse from Dalarna is the fourth of a total of 15 books in the Children of Our Earth series . It was published in 1959 by Rabén & Sjögren , under the title Mina svenska kusiner .

The aim of the book was to give the children an overview of life in different regions of Sweden. While the boy is called Lasse in the German version, he is called Björn in the Swedish original and in the English translation.
