from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jule and the pirates ( Swedish Skrållan och sjörövarna ) is a story by Astrid Lindgren . This is based on the films Das Trollkind and Die Seeräuber . In the movies, Jule is called Skrollan. The book continues the plot from the novel Holidays on Saltkrokan .

action

Jule lives on an island called Saltkrokan in summer. She watches her grandfather Melcher and her father Peter tense the roof while her mother Malin hangs up the laundry. Jule is eagerly waiting for her grandfather to fall off the roof or into the sea. She loves her funny grandfather.

Jule also has a little uncle, Pelle, who is only ten years old. Tjorven, her dog boatswain, her two parents Nisse and Märta, as well as Stina and her grandfather live on Saltkrokan. The Tjorven sisters and Pelle's big brothers always do something together and Jule has little contact with them. She prefers to do something with Pelle, Tjorven and Stina. With the latter, she also celebrates her third birthday with cake and lemon soda on the landing stage.

One day Tjorven, Pelle, Stina and Jule are playing hide and seek with Melcher. This lies down exactly where the chickens laid their eggs before. His pants are totally dirty. Meanwhile, Pelle has totally forgotten that they are playing hide and seek. He watches a large grasshopper in the grass, because he loves animals more than anything.

When Jule tries to go on the seesaw with the dog boatswain, it doesn't work at all. Boatswain weighs a lot more than she does and so her part of the seesaw always stays up in the air. Later the children play sack races.

Then they go to an old ship and fight against each other as bands of pirates. In doing so, they keep getting in the way of Mr. Vesterman, who wants to work there, which he doesn't like at all. Before going home, Jule plays boating in a small basket. She thinks it was a very nice day.

background

The book was first published in 1967 under the title Skrållan och sjörövarna by Rabén & Sjögren . Still images were taken during the shooting of the television series and feature films about the vacation on Saltkrokan . These were used for the book Jule and the pirates .

Jule is originally called Skrållan . Her name is Skrollan in German films and TV series . In Germany, the book was published before the films.

The story takes place after the holiday on Saltkrokan Roman and during the films The Troll Child and The Pirates . However, the book is also easy to understand for children who do not know the previous stories. Some of the events that are reported appear in the films, others are entirely new.

The book takes place on the fictional holiday island of Saltkrokan. The island doesn't really exist. However, some real locations are mentioned in the book, including Söderöra , Furusund and Rödlöga . These make it clear that Saltkrokan is located in the northern Stockholm archipelago .

The photos from the book are from Sven-Eric Delér and Stig Hallgren . The text is by Astrid Lindgren. Thyra Dohrenburg wrote the German translation .

Movies

The book Jule and the Pirates is based on the films The Troll Child and The Pirates . In some languages, such as English, only the book and not the films were translated.

reception

Yvonne Bauer vom Stern thinks that the story is "nice and far removed from the pragmatic everyday topics" that are "dealt with in most current children's books". Instead, it would be "about children AND adults who do funny and stupid things".

Annika Jürgens von Eltern says the story is "timelessly beautiful". It is a great book to read with beautiful photos.

Kerstin Reinke from hoppsala.de thinks that the figures are "lovingly depicted". Astrid Lindgren tell the story "with a lot of wit and charm".
