Danja

Floyd Nathaniel Hills, better known as Danja, is an American Grammy winning record producer, composer and songwriter.

History

Hills, born in Virginia Beach, Virginia, took up drums and piano in his early teens. He got his start by playing in his church when he was growing up.[1]

In 2001, a chance encounter with Timbaland turned into an opportunity to play some music for him. Two years later, Timbaland brought Danja to Miami to work in his studio.[2][1][3]

Career

With Timbaland, Hills produced a wide catalog of songs that helped return the famous producer to prominence in 2006 with an ongoing string of hits throughout the year until present, including "Promiscuous" and "Say It Right" by Nelly Furtado, "SexyBack", "What Goes Around...Comes Around" and "My Love" by Justin Timberlake among others, such as "Love Story" by Katharine McPhee, "Innocence" and "Earth Intruders" by Björk, and "Give It to Me" and "The Way I Are" off Timbaland's second solo album.[4]

In 2007, Danja produced "Gimme More", the hit single of Britney Spears as well as Break the Ice, Get Naked (I Got A Plan), Hot As Ice, Perfect Lover and the two bonus tracks Get Back and Outta This World from her Blackout album. He is currently in the studio again with Britney working on her 6th studio album "Circus". It was recently revealed that he produced one of the tracks called "Kill The Lights" and "Candy From A Stranger!".

Hills produced Trey Songz hit single "Wonder Woman" off his second album Trey Day. More recently, in 2008, Danja co-produced the new single from Madonna, "4 Minutes". He also has co-produced the first single "When I'm Gone" of Simple Plan's eponymous album. He has worked with Mariah Carey on her new song "Migrate" from E=MC². He has also created a few songs in Danity Kane's 2008 album, Welcome to the Dollhouse. Kelly Rowland is expected to work with Hills for her third solo album. Danja has collaborated with The Clutch to produce Cassie's new Single Official Girl for her sophomore effort on Bad Boy Records.

Danja has also recently completed work on Ciara's new album, Fantasy Ride. According to Billboard, he contributed to the production of the "Crunktown" and "Kingdom Of Dance" sections of Fantasy Ride's three-disc compilation album. The album is due out December 9.

Production equipment

Danja uses a laptop, an Edirol MIDI controller, an Akai MPC4000, an Alesis Andromeda A6 synthesizer, a Korg Triton and a Yamaha Motif. He also uses Steinberg's audio sequencer Cubase, as revealed in an interview with Remix Magazine.[5] Also, in another interview on Danja's contribution to Clipse's new album, it was noted that Danja charges around $50,000-100,000 a track.[6] Like many producers, he makes his work known by saying his name in the songs that he has produced.
