Dean Shiels (born 1 February 1985, Magherafelt, County Londonderry, Northern Ireland) is a Northern Irish professional footballer currently playing for Hibernian in the Scottish Premier League. He was previously contracted to Arsenal, but made no first team appearances for the club.

In early 2006, Shiels had an operation to remove his right eye. He had been blind in that eye since a domestic accident when he was eight years old. It was causing headaches, consequently it was agreed that surgery was the best solution.[1]

Shiels returned to action later in 2006[2] and re-established himself in Hibs' first team squad in the 2006–07 season, scoring in the team's first two league matches. He scored his first professional hat-trick for Hibs on 12 January 2008 in a 3–0 win over Inverness in the Scottish Cup. Shiels is one of the most popular players with Hibernian fans, with regular cheers of 'Deano, Deano' ringing out from the Easter Road crowd.

Shiels won his first Northern Ireland cap against Portugal in November 2005[3] and has won four caps to date.[4]
