My Gym Partner's a Monkey is an American animated television series created by Timothy and Julie McNally Cahill and produced by Cartoon Network Studios. The first episode of the series premiered on December 26, 2005, as a sneak peek into Cartoon Network's new shows for the following year. Regular showings began on February 20, 2006

The story revolves around Adam Lyon, a human student at Chester Arthur Middle School. After a typo changes his last name to "Lion", he is sent to Charles Darwin Middle School (named after naturalist Charles Darwin, developer of modern evolutionary theory) a school for anthropomorphic animals. Shortly after his transfer, he is partnered with Jake Spidermonkey (an actual spidermonkey) in gym, hence the title. While Adam has to deal with the obvious difficulties humans have performing animal-like tasks, Jake just has fun at everyone else's expense. Jake also seems to be quite attached to Adam. Going into deep depression when Adam hangs out with other friends, or is away for awhile. This is exemplified by Jake publicly crying when Adam is sick for a day.

Much of Charles Darwin Middle School is modeled after specific habitats. For example, there are fish tubes created so that the fish can breathe and swim around. There are also vines and bodies of water. Though some animals like Bull Sharkowski use devices to allow them to live outside of their natural habitat. In Bull's case he uses what looks like headphones full of water that go around his gills.

Charles Darwin Middle School appears to be the only animal school around, as it is later explained in the episode "Uniformity." In the episode, there are high end east coast schools for animals. The school competes against human schools in athletics, and other events. In one episode where Adam signs up to return to his old school for a day transfer, all the teachers and staff seem to replicate their animal counterparts.

Characters

Adam Lyon

A naïve twelve-year old human who was transferred from a human school to Charles Darwin Middle School by an accidental misspelling of his last name ("Lyon" to "Lion"), Adam must constantly deal with the strange practices of his animal classmates, as well as his hyperactive-monkey best friend. Adam is also lactose intolerant. He is often seen outside of the animal school with a human named Kerry, who he holds a secret crush on. But a Giraffe named Ingrid who goes to his school has a crush on him. His clothes look like the ones that Dexter wore in Dexter's Dodgeball.

Jacob "Jake" P. Spidermonkey

Jake, as his last name implies, is a spider monkey. He wears a green cap and a red sweater. He is energetic, butt-obsessed, and adventurous, quickly becoming Adam's best buddy after they are paired as gym partners, hence the series title. Almost every episode revolves around Jake bringing something extremely random to school, thus causing havoc through CDMS. Jake's a true friend who will do anything to help Adam out of trouble, even though many times Jake's the one who got them into trouble in the first place. He's also a good speller. He even won a spelling contest in school to prove it. He is voiced by Tom Kenny, who also voices Dickie Sugarjumper and Henry Armadillo.

Slips Python

A carefree constrictor snake. He is as nitwitted as Jake, and loves to eat outrageous foods. Slips is mostly seen with Windsor the Gorilla, who helps Adam in his wild situations. Slips also has a mullet like hairstyle.

Lupe Toucan

This female toucan who speaks with a Spanish accent is the resident gossip-meister. She says "jes" instead of yes. She has shown a slight crush for Jake in "Up All Night" and falls in love with Orlando Parrot in "Lupe In Love"In the same episode, she seems to used to have been dating with a student named Corey Vulture. She can be temperamental and is best friend of Ingrid and sometimes seen flying without beating her wings. In "Making The Grade" she's known to speak three different languages. (English, Spanish, and possibly French.)

Windsor Gorilla

He is an intelligent grey male gorilla with a large vocabulary that is seen mostly with Slips, Lupe, Jake, Ingrid, and Adam. He wears a green hat (something worn by break dancers), a yellow jacket, blue trousers and black boots. In one episode Windsor is seen with a ventriloquist dummy named Teddy Truman (named after Presidents Theodore "Teddy" Roosevelt and Harry Truman).

Ingrid Giraffe

Ingrid is a giraffe that is seen mostly with Lupe, her best friend, but is also seen with Windsor, Slips, Adam, and Jake. She wears a purple sweater and blue jeans. Ingrid sometimes gets pushed around by Lupe and does what she says. She is mostly quite kind to everyone. Her neck is so enormously long that her head gets hidden above the screen, but it can be seen whenever she lowers it.

After some episodes, Ingrid develops romantic feelings for Adam, though he seems to not notice this at all.
