Amasa, the origin
'''Villabona''' is a village of over 5500 inhabitants in the ''[[comarca]]'' of [[Tolosaldea]], [[Gipuzkoa]] Province, [[Basque Country]], [[Spain]]. It has a urban area, close to the [[Oria River]], and a rural area, Amasa, around which the village originally formed. Villabona is located in the Oria Valley, in the foothills of Mount Gazume and Mount Uzturre. It is about {{convert|20|km}} from the provincial capital, [[San Sebastián]].


The village originally grew around the Amasa Quarter, in Villabona's highest area. In 1619, both settlements created a unique town council.

The Parish Church of San Martín de Tours stands in Amasa. This church, built between the 16th and 18th centuries, has an interesting high altarpiece. Close by is the Hermitage of Santa Cruz, the first parish of the area.

There are a great number of agrotourism lodgings offering endless activities. The main tourist appeal is in its rural and mountain setting. There are two competitions of rebote, celebrated in July and September. Rebote is a style of the Basque sport [[pelota]] that is only played in Villabona and Zubieta. During the San Martín Festivities in November, Amasa celebrates the traditional 'Oilasko Jokua'. Boys, with their eyes covered, move forward to the sound of a music that tries to mislead them. They have to find a chicken, hit it with a sickle, and cut its head off.

The main tourist appeal of this locality is in its rural and mountain setting, which allows us to enjoy pleasant walks and excursions like, for example, the ascent to Mount Loatzo. There are a great number of agrotourism lodgings offering endless activities. Speaking about gastronomy, we can stand out the Arantzabi Restaurant in Amasa, one of the best traditional cuisines in the comarca (land).
The two championships of rebote, which are celebrated in July and September, stand out from a sports point of view. The rebote is a style of Basque pelota that is only played in Villabona and Zubieta.
During San Martín Festivities, in November, Amasa celebrates the traditional 'Oilasko Jokua'. The boys, with their eyes covered, move forward to the sound of a music that tries to mislead them. They have to get to where the chicken is and, then, they have to hit it with a sickle and cut its head off.









Municipio guipuzcoano situado en la zona central oriental de la provincia. Limita al norte con términos de Aduna y Andoain, al sur con Tolosa e Ibarra, al este con Andoain y un enclave de tierras perteneciente a Berastegi y al oeste con Zizurkil, Asteasu e Irura. Riega su término, por el oeste, el río Oria con sus afluentes y, por el este, el Leizarán, tributario del anterior. El relieve oscila entre los 128 metros y los 631 metros del Alto de Loatzo. La capital, Villabona, está situada a los 43º 11' 00'' y 1º 38' 20'', al oeste del término, en una cota de 128 metros de altitud, junto al monte Ondolar (428 metros), en la orilla derecha del Oria.

Villabona - Guipuzcoa
Villabona se encuentra en la cuenca del rio Oría, tras pasar el grupo de montes de Gazume y Uzturre. A 20 Kms. de San Sebastián, tiene una población de más de 5.500 habitantes. Villabona viene de la antígua población de Amasa, la cual se une a Tolosa en 1385. El título de ciudad lo logró a finales del siglo XV. Después de dividirse de Tolosa, los dos pequeños pueblos decidieron volverse a juntar. Es un pueblo eminentemente industrial, ya que en esta zona ha florecido de diversos tipos, como industrias papeleras, talleres de mecanizados especiales o sectores marmoleros. Darse una vuelta por Villabona supone disfrutar de su gastronomia y sus hospitalarias gentes.

Este pueblo cuenta con varios edificios de gran interés. El Ayuntamiento es del siglo XIX. El antiguo lo quemaron en 1.812 durante la Guerra de la Reconquista por ser cuartel de las tropas francesas. Se trata de un edifico de tres pisos con un gran escudo de piedra en la mitad del tercero. La parroquia del Sagrado Corazón fué construida en el siglo XX y tiene la base de una cruz latina. En Amasa se levanta la parroquia de San Martín de Tours, construida entre los siglos XVI y XVIII. Muy cerca se levanta la ermita de Santa Crúz, considerada la primera parroquia de la zona. Desde aquí podemos ascender al monte Loatzo, o disfrutar de un interesante paseo por los alrededores.

El patrón de Villabona es Santiago, cuyas fiestas se celebran el 25 de Julio. En Amasa, se celebra San Isidro, el 15 de Mayo, y San Martín el 11 de Noviembre, en el que destaca el "Oilasku Joku", ceremonia en la que se corta el cuello a una gallina. Para orgullo del pueblo, cuenta con un coro infantil que fué fundado en el año 1.994, compuesto de unas 50 voces y comprendidas entre los 13 y 16 años. Si se tiene la oportunidad es aconsejable escuchar este coro para comprobar porqué ha sido premiado y reconocido en numerosas ocasiones.
