Gillian Gilbert

Gillian Gilbert (born Gillian Lesley Gilbert, 27 January 1961 in Macclesfield, Cheshire, England) is a British keyboardist, guitarist and vocalist, best known as a member of the Manchester band New Order and a founding member of The Other Two.

Her family moved from her birthplace Manchester to the nearby market town of Macclesfield when Gillian was young. She has a sister called Kim. In a 1987 New Order interview, Gillian says that she disliked living in Cheshire as a teenager and couldn't wait to live in Manchester when she grew up, however she now prefers living outside the city.

She is married to bandmate Stephen Morris, New Order's drummer. Gilbert and Morris have recorded as The Other Two. She is the Other Two's lead vocalist, and her voice can be heard on five New Order tracks: the 1981 single "Procession"; the 1983 single "Confusion"; "Avalanche" from the album Republic on which she sang a single word, "faith"; "Doubts Even Here" from their first album, Movement, on which she provided a spoken-word background vocal; and "Someone Like You" from 2001's comeback album Get Ready (this last one disputed - backing vocal may be provided by Dawn Zee ). She and Morris live in Rainow, outside Macclesfield.

Gillian and Stephen have two daughters, Tilly and Grace. Their daughter Grace has Transverse Myelitis. Its effects are something like a spinal injury. The disease initially left Grace paralysed from the waist down, but Grace has largely recovered and can walk unaided, but she still continues to need care and treatment. Consequentially Gillian has stayed home and not toured with the band since 2001[1]

In 2001 she was replaced by Phil Cunningham in New Order's line-up. She left to look after her and Stephen's young daughter Grace who became ill at the time and Gillian reasoned that it would be easier to replace her than it would Stephen.[2]

In 2007, Morris and Gilbert remixed two tracks for the Nine Inch Nails remixes album Year Zero Remixed.
