(10072) Uruguay is an asteroid of the main belt , which on April 3, 1989 by the Belgian astronomer Eric Walter Elst at the La Silla Observatory ( IAU code 809) of the European Southern Observatory in Chile was discovered.
The asteroid was named on November 25, 2015 after the South American country Uruguay , which borders Brazil and Argentina and is the second smallest state in South America after Suriname .
