(13097) Lamoraal is an asteroid of the main belt , which on 23 January 1993 by the Belgian astronomer Eric Walter Elst at the La Silla Observatory ( IAU code 809) of the European Southern Observatory in Chile was discovered.

The asteroid was named on December 2, 2009 after the Dutch knight and governor of Flanders and Artois Lamoral von Egmond (1522–1568), who was sentenced on June 5, 1568 by the exceptional court of Albas , the so-called Blood Council , together with the Count of Hoorn and was executed. His fate is the subject of the classic tragedy Egmont by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe .
