(1684) Iguassú is an asteroid of the main belt that was discovered on August 23, 1951 by the Argentine astronomer Miguel Itzigsohn in La Plata .

The name of the asteroid is based on the Iguaçu waterfalls of the Iguaçu river on the Brazil / Argentina border .
