(1688) Wilkens is an asteroid of the main belt , which on 3 March 1951 by the Argentine astronomers Miguel Itzigsohn in La Plata was discovered.
The name of the asteroid is reminiscent of the astronomer Alexander Wilkens , who worked in La Plata for a long time, mainly in the field of celestial mechanics.
