(203) Pompeja is an asteroid of the main asteroid belt that was discovered on September 25, 1879 by Christian Heinrich Friedrich Peters . The asteroid was named after the Roman city of Pompeii , which was destroyed in the explosion of Mount Vesuvius in AD 79.
Pompeiia moves at a distance of 2.5716 ( perihelion ) to 2.9019 ( aphelion ) astronomical units around the sun in 4.528 years . The orbit is inclined 3.1849 ° to the ecliptic , the orbital eccentricity is 0.0604.
Pompeiia has a diameter of 116 kilometers. It has a dark surface with an albedo of 0.041. In 46 hours and 36 minutes it rotates around its own axis, which means that it rotates unusually slowly.
